My name is Garrette, and I’m a Professional School Counselor at a high school in Maryland. Reading has always been my self-care—there’s something special about connecting with characters and ideas in books. I love immersing myself in new worlds, especially while relaxing in a hot bath with candlelight and Lofi beats playing softly in the background.
I created this site to help hold myself accountable to my reading goals, build a supportive community of book lovers, advocate for book access, and share reading and academic resources when I can.
I want this space to center storytelling from people of color, with a special focus on Black authors, while exploring themes like mental health, race, culture, womanism, and other intersecting identities.
I’m so glad you’re joining me on this journey!
Children who read are more likely to develop skills in critical thinking and empathy and improve vocabulary, comprehension, analysis, concentration, and much more!
Read to your children, siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. We will need them and their knowledge one day.
